From Funchal proceed west on the Rapido to Ribeira brava and continue to follow the main road through to Ponta Do Sol and Madelena do Mar. After this village go through another tunnel until you reach a roundabout. Take the first turning sign posted Arco Calheta. At the seconf roundabout take the first exit again. Follow the road up above the village until you reach a T junction with a bar/pizzaria on the opposite side of the road and turn right. Then take the first left which will be signposted ´ Miradouro´ (viewing area) and Costa Verde Restaurant. Follow this road for about 200 yards until you reach a slight left hand bend with wheellie bins on right side of road, a small lane on the left hand side is situated, follow this until a Pink house comes into view. "Brambles Cottage" also pink is its neighbour. (If you miss the turning into the lane and carry on up the road until you reach the restaurant, where this is a dead end).
